Bad guys
When radicals take over, bad things will happen. It is totally same, if the place is the capital of our nation or our own intestines.
We should get enough antioxidants from our diet. Otherwise, our health will ruin. For many years, I didn't really know what the antioxidants are for. I just took them, because the mister with the white jacket (MD) told me to do so. But then I decided to learn and now I'm going to tell you how we can prevent ourselves from the bad guys.
Antioxidants prevent us from radicals. Radicals are those terrorists who threat us no matter what we do. Or being honest radicals are actually very important and we do need them, but too much is too much. As always.
I like chemistry, because it is universal and same kind reactions happen everywhere. Therefore, the complex influence of radicals in our body can be explained by the simple example.
Imagine the sunny summer day. You are sitting on the wooden pier, watching the waves hitting the cost, seagulls are screaming you feel happy and inspired.
You start to look at the pier more carefully. You notice that some of the old iron nails have rusted badly. They look ugly. Then you notice that there are new nails too and those galvanized nails look totally different.
What happens to the nails of the pier is totally same what happens to cells of your body. It is called oxiditation. Our body consist of trillions of sells. Cells are very different but they all have same vital organisms. Cell membrane is one of the most important organism of each cell. Cell membrane consists mainly from fatty acids.
Radicals of our body are free oxygen and nitrogen molecules which have lost one or more of their electrodes. These molecules aim to take back the lost electrode and very often the one who gives the electrode away is the fatty acid molecule of our cell membrane. When this happens, the cell is not in the condition anymore. It starts to look like rusted nail of the pier. The number of free radicals increases when we have stress, poor diet, when we smoke, have over weight etc.
But how we can prevent from these bad radical guys?
Stop smoking, do not stress, lose weight...
Eat enough antioxidants. Antioxidants are the armor of vital fatty acids. Antioxidants give the electrode for radical behalf of fatty acid. Thus, cell membrane works and the cell looks like galvanized nail of the pier. Simple?
Maybe this was little bit simplified explanation, but the point is that antioxidants gives the possibility for our body to heal itself. That's the reason, why you should eat enough them.
